Exel picks Chickasaw
Trail for new distribution center
(Columbus, Ohio) - Exel, the global leader in supply chain management, announced
this week it has broken ground for a distribution center in the Chickasaw
Trail Economic Development Area (CTEDA) of Marshall County.
Exel’s distribution center will be the first development in the Industrial
Park, which is located in the southeast portion of the Memphis metropolitan
area.
Exel plans to develop a 700,000-square-foot facility to support the company’s
contract logistics business. The distribution center will create approximately
60 new warehouse jobs with the potential for additional employment opportunities
during peak periods.
Marshall County and the Industrial Development Authority (IDA) have invested
more than $3 million in developing the CTEDA for industrial purposes and
reconstruction of the local infrastructure to support increased traffic,
according to Del Stover, the Industrial Development Authority’s interim
director. The CTEDA is easily accessible from multiple highways including
Mississippi Highway 302, U.S. Highway 72 and Tennessee Highway 385. The Memphis
International Airport is within a 30-minute drive.
Doug Crim, Exel’s senior director of Property Development, said, “The
Marshall County IDA and other local and state officials have provided invaluable
guidance and assistance during the site selection and pre-construction phases
of this project. We are confident that this emerging growth area will meet
our business objectives.”
St. Louis-based Arco National Construction Company will build the facility,
which Exel expects to open near the end of this year. Bayard Snowden of Colliers
Wilkinson & Snowden assisted Exel with the acquisition of the site.
