Mississippi Railroad Map

Railroads
Marshall County is served by two mainline rail carriers and a shortline rail. The Burlington Northern-Sante Fe railroad runs east and west through the middle of Marshall County. The railroad is a distance of seven miles from the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park and already serves industrial sites in Byhalia, Holly Springs and Potts Camp.

The Norfolk Southern railroad runs east and west along the Mississippi-Tennessee border. It is five miles from the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park.

There is also the Mississipi Central shortline rail which runs from Oxford, Miss., to Grand Junction, Tenn., where it connects to the Norfolk Southern.

Comprehensive engineering studies have been completed and routes determined. Rail can be on site of the Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park within a 24 month time period.

The Industrial Development Authority is working on plans to develop an additional site in Byhalia with access to the Burlington Northern Sante Fe railroad track.

BNSF Railway's Intermodal service combines rail, truck and sea transportation into a single package. BNSF Railway is the world's largest Intermodal carrier.

Last year BNSF announced a major $40 million expansion to its Tennessee Yard at Memphis providing an intermodal facility that will double the capacity to 400,000 container lifts. The facility is located at Highway 78 and Shelby Drive, just 30 miles from Holly Springs.

The BNSF yard and other intermodal operators makes Memphis one of the nation's largest distribution centers in the nation, easily available for efficient national or international receiving and shipping of products from Marshall County industries.
