Work Progresses on New Industry

Bids were opened recently for electric, water line and gas line extensions to Rockfon, a new ceiling tile manufacturing facility being built behind Roxul at Chickasaw Trail Industrial Park. The lay-in grid ceilings will be manufactured from stone wool. Rockfon is a subsidiary of Rockwool International in Denmark, and also an affiliate of Roxul. The steel at the site in northwest Marshall County is in place and the metal walls of the facility are going up, reported company representative Ken Cammarato. The roof will be completed by the end of October. “It is critical to have the water, gas and power by November,” he said. This project will bring 90 more jobs and $42 million in investment to this region, according to a report from the groundbreaking ceremony earlier this year. The main staffing of the facility will begin the last quarter of 2016 and the first quarter of 2017, he said, so Rockfon can begin training for the start-up.

Later in the recent board meeting, county supervisors approved Service Electric’s bid of $56,568 to provide electricity to Rockfon. Eubanks Construction of Booneville received the bid for the gas and water extension at a bid price of $171,797. The bids must be approved by the funding agency, the Appalachian Regional Commission, before the contracts can be secured.
